Band of Outsiders….. S/S 12 Look Book
Don’t you just LOVE the look and feel of these pictures!
So whimsical and dreamy. They make me feel all happy inside. Like lying in a summer meadow, the sun beating down while birds sing sweetly from the trees above. The smell of lavender scenting the gentle breeze.
These grainy, vintage, 70’s style Polaroids make up the new S/S 12 look book for designer, and CFDA/Vogue nominee, Scott Sternberg’s latest collection for hip New York label Band of Outsiders.
The label is known for its quirky yet calm style. Specialising in luxurious polo shirts, jumpers, cropped trousers etc. A go to label for wardrobe basics with a twist.
Following in the footsteps of last years Tinsel Town Darling (Kirsten Dunst was the face of their S/S 11 campaign) Michelle Williams perfectly captures this seasons collection of feminine elegance with a quirky tomboy twist.
With Michelle being a lead contender for best actress for her portrayal as Marilyn Monroe, and her unique quirky personal style catching the eye of all the big fashion editors right now, she is the perfect model to promote the uber hip label.
The combination of the bleached lighting effects, the dreamy full length china print dresses and the nipped inn twee jackets could come across as too cute, too pretty. However, Michelle manages to pull this back with her cheeky personality and tomboy charm. Definitely enhanced by her adorable elfin crop.
I love the candid feel to the images. I think this appeals to the consumer as sometimes when fashion campaigns are shot in studios, with precise lighting and art direction, the clothing is projected as being rigid , sterile, even unattainable. This makes the clothing seem less accessible, less wearable to the consumer.
Here we see the garments worn in a park, blowing in the wind, in an office environment, etc. We can actually imagine ourselves wearing these items in our daily lives!
The look book was shot in and around the labels head office. I love the shots of Michelle looking through files in the office and taking down the Meeting in Progress sign. So cheeky and playful!
The shots that were taken by the Hollywood Forever Cemetery (a resting place for some of the greatest names in the entertainment industry) are also very comical. I love the irony in Michelle pretending to dig the grave of the great Alfred Hitchcock. Michelle looking very much like the star of Hitchcock’s classic Psycho movie, Janet Leigh. I’m sure Hitchcock would cast her if he were alive today!
If you are a lover of whimsical fashion photography I would definitely recommend that you check out the labels website. I was sold at first glance.
Love you all exoxers.
